Completion

2015

Size

180 sqm

This internal refurbishment and fit out of an existing four-bedroom apartment in Sydney was designed as a serene retreat with ocean views and garden sanctuary feel.

Meeting the challenges of a low budget and short term intention for the dwelling, the approach prioritised efficiency and minimising trade co-ordination. This led to a refined and subdued palette of timber, polished stucco, and painted surfaces, crafting an atmosphere of calm simplicity.

Two monochromatic bathrooms mimic garden ponds, offering intimate retreats that evoke the ambiance of a secluded cave or waterfall. The main living areas emanate a lighter, wooded aesthetic with green tones, acting as a concept of a natural landscape. Natural materials, gentle hues, and tropical-inspired artwork infuse vibrancy into the 1970s concrete complex, turning a nondescript space into a haven of tranquillity.
