NoMad is an interior alteration to a single level of an existing industrial building in Surry Hills, Sydney. Having gone through several decades of commercial use our clients purchased the adapted apartment as a city sanctuary.
The concrete framed building fenestrated with traditional steel frame industrial windows resides within the podium of the tower. The existing structural chassis required remediation and a complete interior fit-out of the repositioned floor plan.
The materials introduced are sympathetic with the existing structural form and the spirit of the home is elegant and surprising in its scale. Conceived as a contemporary urban oasis, it is a gentle and ambient gallery within the hustle of the city, inspired by the sculptural language of Brancusi’s workshop and embedded with a monolithic timelessness.
